Sept. 23/24/25 - Waited for favorable tide and traveled 12 miles up the winding but generally wide and deep Chester River to Chestertown.  Home of Washington College and and largest by far town in County, so large in fact that it actually has a couple of streets and a small natural foods store, but no supermarket, etc.  It’s also the “County Seat” with the County Courthouse, which is why there are pix of all these incredibly quaint law offices.

Quite a number of houses date back to the 1700's and it’s home to the “Sultana” a replica of a 1700's square-rigged schooner that was used by the Brits to enforce the tea taxes.  People are super-nice.  Stayed on the anchor for the night of 23rd, and then came to the dock for the nights of the 24th and 25th.  Met Brady Stroh who lives in Port Depot at the South end of the Susquehanna River shortly before it exits into the Chesapeake Bay.  He is a professor of digital cartography and mapping, works on an antique skipjack, and cruises in a 32 ft.Chesapeake Bay deadrise motor vessel named Daisy when he can.  His wife is a high-powered corporate lawyer with Hershey Chocolate, is addicted to tennis and doesn’t like the water.  Had a nice evening chatting with him.  He runs nature cruises on his boat from a web site.

Sept. 26/Oct. 2 - Hang out in Chestertown while Kryss goes to Summer Trios Board Meeting.  Get a few boat things repaired and generally don’t do much except turn 65.  Weather turns unseasonably warm, which is a nice change.

Andy, it is fun to hear about you and Krys sailing off to adventure. I guess it is time to update my address book entry for you, which has only your work number. My email address is macon.cowles@gmail.com. My wife of 31 years, Regina, and I just renovated an old  (1874) small house (1,700 sq. ft). It looks like the original house including a stone porch added in the 1920s or 1930's--but now it is a high performance building, LEED Platinum, very energy efficient, tight and cozy, all light are LED's, etc.I am mostly retired from my law practice, though I still have some matters to keep me current. And I was just reelected to another term on the Boulder City Council, where our number one goal is reducing GHG emissions. We expect to make huge strides in the next couple of years, as we are midway to forming our own municipal electric utility, so that we can get more renewables as energy sources.Fair winds to you and Krys, my friend and colleague. And watch out for freaking pirates!!Your friend,Macon Cowles
